MOSINEE (WAOW) -- A local cheese company says its business grew during the our toughest economic times. A leader from Mullins Cheese Inc. says everyone's love for cheese keeps the industry going.

"Profits are continuing to rise mainly because of Wisconsin refusing to keep cheese out of their diet," says Ben Mullins.

He says over the last couple of years, during tough economic times, they've actually seen their sales go up 15%.

"It's a product that's always going to be chosen when you go out there. There's a time and a place for cheese at any occasion," he says.

Wisconsin's department of agriculture web site says the state is number 1 for cheese production in the country.

"Being able to send it to all different types of industries, different cliental, that is the key."

Mullins says cheese is used by almost everyone and it doesn't really matter whether they buy it in restaurants or bring it home to their kitchens.

"As the tourists and people travel less, have declined, they started to prepare food at home more, so that increased grocery sales."

With the holidays around the corner, they expect the sales to only go up.

"It's always been a good gift. If you can't think of anything else, to get someone, it's always a good gift," says retail sales associate Sandy Liebe.
