STEVENS POINT – Millikin's Julia Robert knocked down a three-point basket with just four seconds remaining on the clock as the Big Blue women's basketball team pulled off a 73-71 upset of third-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday Evening in Berg Gym.
Trailing by 12, 51-39 with 14:24 remaining in the second half, the Pointers took advantage of a 26-7 run to pull in front of the visiting Big Blue 65-58. From there, Millikin chipped away at a Pointer lead that was as high as six points with 52 seconds remaining until, trailing by one, Robert knocked down the game-winner from the left side.
A final mid-court heave by the Pointers was unable to connect with the rim, as the Pointers suffered their first loss of the 2010-11 season.
Millikin opened the game on a 5-0 run before the Pointers responded, fighting their way back to take a two point lead in the game's early minutes, 7-5. Millikin retook the lead and led by as many as 10 in the game's opening half, 27-17. The Pointer again battled back and trailed by two, 35-33, at the half.
In the second half, the Big Blue built a 12 point lead, 51-39 in the early going of the second half before the Pointers made a run to retake the lead.
Sam Barber led the way for the Pointers with 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting while Andrea Flease added 15 and Britta Petersen chipped in 10. Flease and Petersen each had a team-best five rebounds.
Millikin shot 50 percent from the floor for the game, led by Robert, who had 21 points. Elise Wildman finished the night 8-for-10 from the floor for 20 points and had a game-best 10 rebounds.
