STEVENS POINT (PRESS RELEASE)- Jerrel Harris had 22 points and the Pointers shot 65 percent from the field as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team cruised to an 84-49 win over Edgewood College Saturday evening at Bennett Court, improving their record to 3-0.
After taking a 35-28 lead into the half, the Pointers opened up the second half on a 9-0 run to take a 44-28 lead with 17:02 to go in the game.
Tyler Tillema had five points during the run and delivered an assist to Scott Hoelzel who finished with a dunk to aid the Pointers during their run. Tillema finished the game with 14 points and Hoelzel had nine points and a team high 11 rebounds.
The Pointers were especially good from three-point range, making 11 of 13 from beyond the arc, good for 84.6 percent. Harris had four three-pointers, and Tillema, Jordan Giordana, and Adam Abegglen all made two.
In the second half the Pointers were nine-of-nine from three-point range and 18-24 on field goals. They outscored Edgewood 49-21 in the final 20 minutes. Harris made nine of the ten field goals he attempted.
The Pointers distributed the ball well on the evening as they finished with 16 assists compared to just seven for Edgewood. Harris led the team with four.
Louis Hurd also scored in double digits for the Pointers as he finished the game with 10 points on four of six shooting. Ten players scored for the Pointers. The Pointer bench also outscored the Eagles bench 27-15 on the evening.
The Pointers will return to action on Wednesday as they begin conference play with a trip to UW-Stout. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Menomonie.
