MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring on a $27.9 million hockey and swimming facility that'll be built next to the Kohl Center in Madison.
The Wisconsin State Building Commission approved the project earlier this month to build La Bahn Arena. The facility is expected to open in fall 2012.
The tri-level complex will include an ice rink for men's and women's hockey practice and women's games, seating about 2,400, locker rooms and a connecting tunnel to the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin's men's basketball team also will receive locker suite space vacated by the men's hockey locker rooms when it moves.
Two-thirds of the cost of the project came from gifts to Wisconsin's athletics department with the rest of the funding coming from bonds.
