Carl F. Hoffman
100, Marathon, died Thursday November 25, 2010 at his home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born February 19, 1910 in Kansas, son of the late John and Doris (Brandt) Hoffman. On September 11, 1935, he married Rosalie "Sally" Blume at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She preceded him in death November 12, 1999.
Carl was a dairy farmer in the town of Cassel and drove logging trucks, worked for breweries in Marshfield and Medford, was a truck driver for Marathon Cheese and a mechanic for Knauf Brothers until his retirement.
Among his favorite things to do were going up north fishing, doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches and reading. Through the years Carl made Nativity stables for all his children and grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for faithfully sending birthday cards to all his family members.
Survivors include his three sons, Chester (Irene) Hoffman, Marathon, James Hoffman, Waterford, Thomas (Jan) Hoffman, Kronenwetter, one daughter, Doris (Cliff) Sulzer, Wausau, 11 grandchildren, Carla (John) Bahr, Susan Blair, Deanna (Max) Martin, Shelly Hoffman, James (Jill) Hoffman, Jeff (Laura) Hoffman, Berdetta (Mike) Colbert, Mike (Connie) Sulzer, Tim (Schelie) Sulzer, Kari Peterson, Tom (Kris) Hoffman and Tammy (Dean) Zastrow, 29 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Adrienne Hoffman, two brothers, George and Herman Hoffman and one sister, Doris Schaffert, two grandchildren, Robert Hoffman and Beth Hoffman a great granddaughter, Beatrice Blair.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 28, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
