EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Unless something unexpected happens in the next week, Michigan State will miss out on a BCS bowl despite winning a share of its first Big Ten title since 1990.
Coach Mark Dantonio took some time Monday to stick up for his Spartans, saying they at least deserve to be considered for the Rose Bowl or another BCS game. Dantonio discussed the strength of his team's schedule compared to Wisconsin's and Ohio State's and said Michigan State has "a great story to tell" after overcoming adversity to go 11-1.
The three-way tie for the Big Ten's Rose Bowl berth is being decided by the BCS rankings, and Wisconsin is almost certain to win. That leaves Michigan State fighting what appears to be an uphill battle with Ohio State for an at-large BCS bid.
