STEVENS POINT – The 14th-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team opened the conference portion of their schedule at home on Tuesday evening with a 30-3 victory over 17th-ranked UW-Oshkosh at Berg Gym. The Pointers tallied three major decisions on the evening and won nine of 10 matches.
The Pointers' Jordan Schulte, ranked eighth in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, earned an 8-2 victory over Oshkosh's Aaron Konitzer. Ryan Conat and second-ranked Ben Engelland followed with victories of their own, both by major decision, to give the Pointers an 11-0 lead early on.
The lone victory of the evening came for the Titans' seventh-ranked Sam Engelland, who won 6-1 over Brandon Jochem.
From there, the Pointers rebounded with a heavyweight victory by Steve Wozniak, who pushed his record to 13-2. Eighth-ranked Joe Mileski added a 3-1 victory at 125 and Jordan Kust, Shane Sweeney, Kris Magruder and Ben Strobel followed with wins of their own to lead the Pointers to the 30-3 win.
The Pointers have won the previous 10 match-ups with the Titans.
UW-Stevens Point (2-0, 1-0 WIAC) returns to action this weekend at the La Crosse 4x2 duals hosted by UW-La Crosse. The Pointers then return home for another conference match against the Pioneers of UW-Platteville on Dec. 9.
