STEVENS POINT – Allie Tanzerscored her eighth goal of the season but it was not enough as Lake Forest ended the Pointers six game winning streak in a 2-1 victory Tuesday evening at Ice Hawks Arena.
In the first period, both teams were held scoreless as either team could gain any momentum early on. Pointers goalie Stacie Pomering was able to stop six Forester attempts while Lake Forest's goalie, Alyssa Wintermute, stoped seven.
The second period was owned by the Foresters as they were able to control the puck most of the period keeping it in the Pointers zone.
Chelsea Thompson began the scoring early in the second period when she took a pass from Mira Trebilcock on a breakaway for the lead. Halfway through the period, Lake Forest answered again, this time converting on a power-play, when Lynn Switaj scored on a put back from Sarah Gilbride.
The Foresters outshot the Pointers 13-3 in the period, resulting in a 2-0 advantage entering the third period.
UW-Stevens Point was able to climb back in the game in the third period when Lake Forest committed a penalty and the Pointers capitalized 37 seconds later when Tanzer scored her eighth goal of the season with the assist going to Ariel Novak.
The Pointers could not take advantage of a Foresters power-play late in the period and fell 2-1.
Lake Forest outshot the Pointers firing 28 shots compared to Point's 14.
