Sophie K. Sigman

Sophie K. Sigman, age 94, of Stevens Point, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 30, 2010, at Harmony Living Center, Stevens Point. She had resided at Harmony for the past year.

She was born May 13, 1916, in the Portage County town of New Hope, to the late Frank and Theodora (Wroblewski) Koziczkowski. On Oct. 26, 1935, her marriage to Joseph Sigman took place at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Rosholt. Joseph died on July 24, 1973.

Sophie worked at Normington Laundry until her retirement. Following retirement, she became involved in various charitable projects, including RSVP, Foster Grandparents, St. Peter's Funeral Choir and the Senior Citizens Meal Program.

She was a member of the St. Peter's Rosary Society and Secular Order of St. Francis and enjoyed volunteer work, crafts, word games, cards, trips to the casino and traveling. In 1992, she received the Century of Creativity Celebrating Women's Achievements Award for outstanding contribution to the enhancement of the Stevens Point area community.

Survivors include daughters, Loretta (Russell) Funk of New Berlin, and Rose Ann Sigman of Easton, Maryland; son, Francis (Sue) Sigman of Stevens Point; son-in-law, Louis Lehman of Junction City; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sophie's name to St. Peter Parish, Life Line or Ministry Home Care–Hospice Services.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sophie was preceded in death by her daughter, Ramona Lehman; four brothers; one sister and two great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point with the Rev. Kevin C. Louis officiating. Burial will follow in Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the St. Faustina Room at St. Peter Church from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday. The St. Peter's Rosary Society will lead the rosary to be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Friday in the St. Faustina Room.
