WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The end of employment benefits affects people right here in the state.

More than 90,000 Wisconsinites receive federal unemployment checks.

"During these challenging economic times, unemployment benefits continue to be a lifeline for individuals out of work through no fault of their own," said John Dipko, the Communications Director for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

Representatives from the Department of Workforce Development said they will keep those losing benefits up-to-date on other ways they might get government help.

"Without congressional action, federal extended benefits will end for thousands of Wisconsin residents starting this month," said Dipko. "We are in communication with claimants, keeping them informed of their eligibility, alerting them to other available services, and helping them return to work at the earliest possible opportunity."

For more information about unemployment benefits, and to find out whether you could still get those benefits, you can go to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development website.
