LINCOLN COUNTY (WAOW) -- Chase Boruch was arrested Monday in Madison for the murder of his mother Sally Pergolski. If found guilty, the charges carry a punishment of up to life in prison.
The judge ordered him held on $2 million cash bond--the highest Lincoln County officials have ever seen.
"I wanted to make sure that the bail was set a high amount to assure that Mr. Boruch would be here for future court appearances," says district attorney Don Dunphy.
According to a criminal complaint, Boruch and his mother were going fishing in June. They lost control of their car, plunging into Moraine Lake in Harrison.
A pathologist later determined Pergolski suffered head trauma hours before the accident was reported.
An investigation followed, taking nearly five months to complete.
"What we needed to go forward, those have been satisfied now, and the arrest was made in the timeliest fashion that we could," says Dunphy.
The Lincoln County district attorney revealed that weeks before the accident. Pergolski took out a million dollars in life insurance policies.
And her son --Chase Boruch was a beneficiary.
On December 9th attorneys will meet with the judge to schedule future court dates. In the meantime, Chase Boruch will stay at the Lincoln County jail.
