Cody Rosemeyer knew heading into the division 7 football state championship, Catholic Central's focus would be stopping him. But that didn't matter as the senior running back ran for 218 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Pirates to the gold ball.
"People who have seen him play for maybe the first time this year would be surprised, but it's something we've seen for two or three years now, so it's not a surprise to us," Gilman Head Coach Robin Rosemeyer said.
"Since we were little kids playing noon hour ball, throwing the ball back and forth, we all said we were going to try and make it down here, win it," Cody Rosemeyer said.
Alongside teammate Austin Zach, Rosemeyer and the Pirates piled up 430 yards on the ground and the game was Rosemeyer's fourth this season with more than 200 yards rushing and his four touchdowns were a division 7 state finals record.
"I was not expecting to be near the numbers I had," Cody Rosemeyer said. "I have to give all the credit to the blockers up front, Austin leading it up in the bellies and stuff."
Rosemeyer finishes his career with more than 37 hundred yards and 51 touchdowns, something his coach says has made a big impact on the program
"We've been fortunate the last five or six years, we've had a decent running back and he really fits the mold of helping us out," Robin Rosemeyer said. "We've said it before, we're glad he's on our team."
