MADISON (Press Release) – UW-Stevens Point head men's cross country coach Rick Witt has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference'2010 Coach of the Year in the Year. It is the 14th time Witt has been named a WIAC Coach of the Year and fifth time he has won the award for cross country.
UWSP claimed its second title in the last three seasons at the 2010 WIAC Men's Cross Country Championship held at Whitetail Golf Course Oct. 30 by three points over UW-Platteville. The three-point margin of victory by the Pointers was the second-closest in the 50-year history of the meet and was also achieved in 2001 and 2008.
The league crown for the Pointers is the fifth in program history, all coming under Coach Witt's direction. The Pointers previously won league titles in 2008, 1997, 1996 and 1981.
The Pointers followed their conference showing with a third place finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regionals, receiving an at-large team bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
At nationals, the Pointers finished in sixth place, paced by junior Terry Witkowski's sixth place finish.
