It doesn't get much better in high school ball than an early matchup over number one vs number two

Thats exactly what we have in Prentice tonight between Newman and Prentice

The defending state champion Cards travel to take on the Bucs in a battle of the top two in division five.

A rematch of last year's Marawood crossover game which Newman won by 32 points.

The Cards know Prentice has revenge on its mind, but they relish the early test.

"This is huge," Newman head coach Tom Weinkauf said. "It's a big game, it's kind of our rivalry the last few years, we've been going toe-to-toe with them and both being ranked this early. It's a great opportunity for both teams, but it's a great opportunity to find out where we are at."

"This is a really big game for us," Newman senior Taylor Thomas said. "They're number two in the state and we're number one, so it's obviously the best two teams right now going head-to-head, so we really want to win this one just to give us confidence and momentum moving on later into the season."
