#8 Pointer women's hoops gets past River Falls 75-67

RIVER FALLS (PRESS RELEASE) – UW-Stevens Point's Britta Petersen tallied her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds as the eighth-ranked Pointers women's basketball team snapped UW-River Falls's five game winning streak with a 75-67 victory over the Falcons Saturday afternoon.

The Pointers jumped out to an early six point lead, 13-7, and held an advantage until the Falcons took a one point lead, 21-20 at the 8:53 mark.

UWSP quickly answered with a fastbreak layup by Andrea Flease to retake the lead. The Pointers built back up their lead by as many as seven points and took a five point edge, 37-32, into the halftime break.

In the second half the Pointers continued their impressive shooting performance, hitting 13 of their 25 shots (.520), building and holding a double digit lead for much of the second half as the Pointers rolled to the eight point victory.

Petersen finished 6-for-10 from the floor including 2-2 from beyond the three-point arc and a perfect 2-2 from the free-throw line. Three other Pointers finished scoring in double figures as Ashley Averkamp added 11 in the victory and Sam Barber and Cassie Bandow each added 10.

Brittany Gregorich of River Falls led all scorers with 18 points, eight of which came from the free-throw line.

UW-Stevens Point (6-1, 2-0 WIAC) returns to action Wednesday when they head to Whitewater to face the Warhawks in a 7 p.m. match-up.
