Wis. soldier hurt in Afghanistan returns stateside

SUN PRAIRIE (AP) -- A wounded Wisconsin soldier is back on American soil after his unit was attacked in Afghanistan.

Twenty-two-year-old Army Specialist Joshua Brown, of Sun Prairie, suffered a collapsed lung and penetrating wounds to the chest and legs when a police station was attacked by two suicide bombers posing as police officers. Thirteen Afghan policemen were killed and several others injured in the attack Nov. 27.

Relatives said this weekend that the 2006 Sun Prairie High School graduate is now at a hospital in Maryland with his wife, Jasmine, at his side.

Brown's father-in-law, Steve Heimerl, says Brown's condition has improved in the past week. He says his visitors have included some Pittsburgh Steelers.

Heimerl says Brown was serving a yearlong tour of duty, and wasn't supposed to return home until July.
