Wis. Man arrested after standoff in western Wis.

ONALAKSA (AP) -- A Brice Prairie man has been arrested after a standoff with authorities at a home in the Town of Onalaska in western Wisconsin.

The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department says residents heard gunfire around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Deputies arrived to see the 25-year-old suspect inside the home loading a shotgun. He then came out with the shotgun and refused to drop it.

While deputies negotiated with him for about 30 minutes in front of the home, several people escaped from a rear door.

WKBT-TV reports he eventually surrendered without incident, and no one was hurt. Another man was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Investigators say they determined he had fired several rounds from a 9 mm handgun into a wood pile. Preliminary tests show he had a blood alcohol level of 0.19 percent, more than double the legal limit for driving.

He's being held in the La Crosse County Jail.
