Armed standoff ends with no injuries near La Crosse

ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WAOW) -- According to our sister station, WXOW, a short standoff in Onalaska ends with no injuries and a Brice Prairie man arrested.

The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department responded to N5855 Lakeview Court East around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night after residents said they heard gunfire outside their home.

When authorities arrived, they observed 25-year-old Mitchell D. Muller, of Onalaska, inside the home loading a shotgun.

Muller came out of the residence holding the shotgun and refused orders to comply when officers ordered him to drop the gun.

A 30 minute standoff ensued.

Police were informed that four adults and two children were still in the home and were able to escort several adults from the back door of the residence.

A deputy eventually negotiated Muller to surrender.

No one was hurt during the stand off.

Preliminary breath tests show Muller had an alcohol level of 0.19.

During an investigation, authorities found  that Muller had fired several rounds from a 9mm handgun into a wood pile in the back yard.

Muller is being held at the La Crosse County Jail on possible charges of recklessly endangering safety, endangering safety while armed with a dangerous weapon, being armed while under the influence and disorderly conduct while armed.

Issac J. Chase,19, of  La Crosse was also arrested for disorderly conduct and underage consumption of alcohol.

The sheriff's department was assisted by the Onalaska and Holmen Police  Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
