TOWN OF FRANKFURT(WAOW)--A Marathon County farm fire that blazed more than 6 hours is considered a total loss. Edgar's fire chief is calling it one of the worst fires he's seen in a long time.
Fire crews responded to a barn and machine shed fire in Frankfort, a town just a few miles outside of Edgar. The call came in around 4:45 Monday night at 1616 Huckleberry Road.
Twenty emergency vehicles and eleven water tankers responded to the blaze. Neighbors say the entire yard was an orange blaze and the smoke was so thick crews had to shut down the road.
Dan Dvorak, Edgar's Fire Chief says, "When I saw the fire I knew we needed back up. A fire like this you need more man power."
Chief Dvorak says a family of four lives on the property, luckily their home was saved and no one was hurt. Most of their farm animals survived.
Investigators say the barn and shed were completely destroyed. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation but Chief Dvorak believes it could be electrical.
