TOWN OF FRANKFURT(WAOW)--A Marathon County farm family faces big challenges this holiday season after a devastating fire.

Monday night in the Town of Frankfurt, the Anderson's family barn and machine shed burned to the ground. Edgar's Fire Chief Dan Dvorak says it was the worst fire he's seen in a long time.

Tuesday morning neighbors returned to help pick up the pieces. Nothing but ashes and burnt machinery remained.

Jim Streit, who lives across from the Anderson's farm says, "That's what I guess neighbors do, we help each other in times of need and this is definitely a time of need."

The Anderson's lost 8 cows and more than 50 chickens. Several neighbor's helped transport the cows to other nearby farms.

Chief Dvorak says they still don't know what caused the blaze but power lines running through the barn could be to blame. They are leaving the investigation up to the insurance company.
