EAU CLAIRE – Johnny Meo scored the equalizer in the second period and Brandon Busse scored the long-awaited game-winner as the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team snapped a seven game skid with a 3-2 victory over UW-Eau Claire at Hobbs Ice Center Saturday evening.
The Pointers fell behind early to the Blugolds as Andrew Wilcox tallied a first period goal and Travis Peckskamp added another midway through the second period, giving Eau Claire the 2-0 advantage.
Max Bobrow started the scoring for the Pointers at the 14 minute mark of the second period, his fourth of the season, and Meo scored the equalizer just four minutes later, knotting the score at two goals apiece after two periods.
In the third, Brandon Busse scored his second goal of the season at the 5:43 mark, unassisted, putting the Pointers in front 3-2. The rest of the way UWSP hung on, holding off several late charges by the Blugolds including two power-play opportunities.
The two point Northern Collegiate Hockey Association win gives the Pointers six points on the season, two ahead of UW-River Falls and St. Scholastica and moves the team into fifth place in the league standings.
