WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The weekend brought central Wisconsin a battle against mother nature. Everyone felt the stress of the weather, and several businesses were forced to close their doors early.

"It was pretty significant, it really hurt business a lot both yesterday and today, so it will make the week not great, but you do what you gotta do," says Cindy Ecklund, manager of Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken in Wausau.

Severe weather pushes managers Lee's to make some cuts.

"It is a little frustrating, but you do have to look out for your employees too. You don't want them out in it much more than you want your customers out in it, so if people aren't out, you are just better off to send people home early," adds Ecklund.

Marathon County highway officials say this one made a mark.

"This is a big one for us," says Dan Raczkowski, operations superintendent of the Marathon County Highway Department.

The highway department sent 34 trucks out to tackle the mess on state and county roads.

"We've had big ones in the past, it's been a few years since we've had this kind of snow," he adds.

And the snow forced drivers to make some changes too.

"Oh, it was terrible. I mean I saw people with their big trucks; they were just plowing through it. But some of them, I actually saw them spinning out," says Shawn Rhynar of Wausau.

Transportation officials remind drivers, even if snow isn't falling to take the roads slowly.

"There might be some isolated drifted sports early in the morning, so people should drive with caution and be prepared that if they go over a hill they might find some drifting and they should just reduce their speed and be cautious," adds Raczkowski.
