KRONENWETTER (WAOW) -- The Kronenwetter police department is cracking down on their patrol by participating in the Booze and Belts safety program. Until next Saturday, they're joining the campaign to try to responding to more traffic violations.

Funded by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the program aims to decrease the number of preventable deaths around the state.

"[With] extra patrol, we want to be more visible in the community. To get the message out to the community that we are being vigilant and officers are aware that there is a lot more traffic during the holiday time and so we want to make sure that people get to their destinations more safely," says Lt. Terry McHugh, of the Kronenwetter Police Department.

The Department of Transportation reports that 200 law enforcement agencies in the state are participating in the Booze and Belts program.
