EAU CLAIRE (AP) -- Authorities at the Eau Claire County Jail say an inmate recently broke both ankles by jumping off a second-floor railing to win a bet.
Jail officials say 30-year-old Christopher J. Fischer initially said he hurt his ankles by falling off the top bunk of his cell a few months ago.
But six witnesses have since told investigators he jumped nearly 14 feet off a railing to win a $20 to $25 bet.
Fischer had been serving two months in jail after pleading guilty an amended felony count of theft.
He has been released from jail. But the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram says he has now been arrested in the rail-jumping case on tentative charges of obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.
A message left with his attorney Saturday wasn't immediately returned.
