THORP (WAOW) -- The mayor of Thorp is on a leave of absence as he faces criminal charges.

According to the criminal complaint, Craig Jiskra is charged with seven different counts including stalking, physical abuse of a child, and bail jumping. A Clark County sheriff's deputy says Jiskra is also charged with domestic battery in Dunn County.

The city council president will be acting mayor during Jiskra's absence.

"We treat every individual the same. It's another investigation for us that we do the best that we can in it. Complete it to its fullest," Chief Deputy of Clark County Jim Backus said.

The city administrator says people of Thorp can't remove Jiskra until he's been in office for a year. He was just elected last April. Further, the city council can't remove him, because the charges didn't affect his official role as the mayor.
