Surplus of candidates for school board

GRANTON (WAOW) -- Most school districts have trouble filling vacated seats on their school board. The Granton School District doesn't have that problem.

11 candidates have applied for two open seats. Some believe the unusual interest in the school board positions are tax-related. Granton recently increased taxes to help fund local schools.

"I hope that people that are upset about the taxes are running for the school board, not just because of the fact that they're upset about their taxes. But also because they want to do what's best for the kids. They want to give the kids a good education," School Board Member Paul Knoff said.

The school district plans to hold a meeting early February for people to meet the candidates.
