STEVENS POINT (WAOW)- The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team cruised to first home victory of the season on Friday evening, posting a 6-2 victory over the Cobbers of Concordia-Moorhead at Ice Hawks Arena.
The Pointers got the scoring started late in the first period with a goal by Kent Detlefsen.
The lead wouldn't last long as Moorhead answered with a goal of their own early to start the second period. Stevens Point took control and dominated the rest of the game, scoring five unanswered goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Kyle Heck started the Pointer run with a power play goal midway through the second period. Kyle Politz and Donnie Hallmark each added goals of their own to contribute to the Pointer scoring. But it was Max Bobrow who led all players with two goals, one late in the second period to push the Pointer lead to three, and an insurance goal midway through the third period to give the Pointers their final total of six goals.
Garrett Suter added a pair of assists to help power the Pointers. Concordia would add a goal late in the third period but it was far too late as the Pointers improved their record to 3-0 against teams from the MIAC.
Nick Graves got the win for the Pointers to improve his record to 6-10 on the season. Graves finished the game with 26 saves.
UW-Stevens Point (6-10 overall) finishes the weekend at Ice Hawks Arena, Saturday night against St. John's. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
