STEVENS POINT- The UWSP men's basketball team used a 40-18 edge in points in the paint to cruise past Macalester on Monday night by a score of 82-51 at Bennett Court.
It took awhile for the Pointers to get things rolling as they faced a 21-15 deficit with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
The Pointers then used a 12-0 run to make the score 27-21. Jordan Giordana got the run started with a three point shot and Nick Krull also scored three points during the run.
That 12-0 stretch seemed to spark the Pointers, as they built their lead up to 12 points when Krull hit a three with five seconds remaining in the first half to give the Pointers a 40-28 halftime lead.
Dan Tillema led the way in the first half as he scored all 12 of his points in the first 20 minutes. Tillema shot four of six from the field and made all four free throws he attempted.
The Pointers carried their momentum from the end of the first half into the second 20 minutes as they outscored Macalester 42-23 in the second half.
Jerrel Harris led the Pointers with 13 points as he made all six of his free throws. As a team the Pointers shot 76 percent (13-17) from the line.
Louis Hurd and Tyler Tillema each finished with nine points and Krull had eight points and a team high four assists for the Pointers.
The win was the seventh straight for the Pointers and sixth straight by at least 25 points. The Pointers improved their record to 12-2 on the season and are a perfect 6-0 at home.
