ELAND (WAOW)--An early morning fire in Eland blocked traffic on Highway 29 and destroyed the Outskirts bar. Firefighters from five different companies spent hours battling flames.
Blinding smoke and charred wood...all that's left of the Outskirts. No one was inside the building when flames were spotted by a passerby just before seven in the morning on Saturday.
Firefighters say the blaze was an accident and there is no sign of foul play. The building is completely destroyed.
Crews used close to 70,000 gallons of water to put out the fire. Hatley Fire Chief Randy Szews told Newsline 9 strong winds and weather were both a factor in the spread of the blaze. He said when crews arrived the structure was fully engulfed.
Owners of the Outskirts declined to speak on camera.
