UWSP's Pomering Claims NCHA Honor

STEVENS POINT (Press Release) - UW-Stevens Point sophomore goaltender Staci Pomering (Roscoe, Ill. /Hononegah H.S.) has been selected NCHA Player of the Week in the Women's Division. Pomering played a significant role as the Pointers gained three points in the standings with a tie and win over visiting Adrian College.

Pomering played especially well as the teams finished in a 1-1 overtime tie on Saturday. She turned away 36 Bulldog shots while surrendering just the one goal. Pomering made six saves in the first period, 14 in the second, 12 in the third and four in overtime. Adrian's lone goal came on the power play in the second period.

On Sunday afternoon, with all other NCHA games having been played and the Pointers sitting near the bottom of the jam-packed standings, Pomering put up another nice game and guided her team to a 4-1 win. She made 25 saves on 26 shots, including several during five Adrian power play opportunities.
