Philbin announces retirement

NEW YORK (WAOW) -- After several decades in front of the camera, Regis Philbin announced this will be his last season co-hosting his popular morning show.

Philbin, 79, stunned the audience at the start of Tuesday's Live with Regis and Kelly, which he's been hosting for a quarter of a century.

"This will be my last year on this show," said Philbin. "I know it's been a long time. It's been 28 years since I've been here and it was the biggest thrill of my life."

Philbin has been dealing with some health issues. He underwent a triple heart bypass in 2007 and a hip replacement in 2009.

He is listed in the Guinness world records for most hours on camera in television, logging over 16 and a half thousand hours over his career.
