Wausau "Hometown Story" premieres Wednesday at the Grand Theater
WAUSAU (WAOW)--If you're curious about Wausau, Wisconsin Public Television promises to tell you the story.
WPT presents the premiere broadcast of Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Wausau at 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 24. However, if you're in the Wausau area on Wednesday, you can get a sneak peek.
According to a news release, Wausau is the fifth in a series of "Wisconsin Hometown Stories" documentaries featuring the history of Wisconsin communities. Two free community screenings will take place in Wausau at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Grand Theater.
The WPT release details further that the new history documentary begins with the founding of the Wausau community as a sawmilling center and highlights major turning points in its development, including the formation of the group of investors known as the "Wausau Group" and the transforming impact of the industries they started in the area. In the program, local historians explain the community's strong tradition of building local cultural institutions and tell the stories of people and events that placedWausau on the state and national map. Members of Wausau's Hmong community also contribute stories of their recent immigration experience.
