Ruth E. Weimerskirch, 95, Wausau, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Harmony Commons, Wausau.
Ruth was born May 13, 1915 in Wisconsin Rapids to the late William Fandrich and Mathilda (Knuth) Fandrich. In 1936 she graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Wausau, with a major in surgery and supervisory nursing. She was an obstetrical supervisor at St. Xavior Hospital in Portage, WI. She married Dr. Julius Weimerskirch on May 20, 1939. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1995.
Ruth was mother to seven children, homemaker and active volunteer for many years for the Wausau Catholic Women's Club and Birch Trails Girl Scout Council. Ruth and Julius were founding members of St. Anne Church. Ruth was the first President of Fatima Council and the first President of the Newman High School parent club, the Newman Guild. Ruth and Doc received a special award for a combined 100 years of service to youth through the Boy and Girl Scout programs.
Survivors include three sons: James, Wausau; Nick, Edgar; Tom (Sue), Wausau; and three daughters: Ann (Jerry) Ohde, Wausau; Mary (Dave) Herzog, Rothschild; Linda Zastrow, Wausau; 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and a sister Pearl Weimerskirch, Belgrade, Minn.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Childs, infant daughter Paula, great grandson Luke Grenwalt, and 3 sisters; Alma Keller and Mabel Gilson, Wisconsin Rapids; and Loraine Nieman, Rudolph.
Ruth enjoyed every day, especially if the day was at their Currie Lake home, traveling nationally or internationally, card playing with grandchildren or bridge buddies, making crafts, or visiting with good friends and relatives.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21 at the Church of St. Anne, 700 West Bridge Street, Wausau. The Rev. Steven Brice will celebrate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Anne. Burial will take place on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with arrangements.
