BROKAW (WAOW) -- A week after a fire sparked in the tunnels beneath a Brokaw grain mill, an explosion brings firefighters back to the scene.

Authorities said the explosion at a Wisconsin Rapids Grain mill in Brokaw happened as a result of the fire last week, since it hadn't been completely extinguished. Fire fighters said while workers were clearing out corn, air fanned the smoldering grain which sparked the explosion.

"It's a continuum," said Maine Fire Department Captain Bob Pound, "because we were not able last week to get at the fire, physically, couldn't get at it, couldn't get it extinguished."

Pound said between 8 to 10 people were working at the time but no injuries were reported. After the explosion, the captain said orange smoke billowed out of the building and then turned to white smoke. The explosion created a hole in the roof between 10 to 15 feet across.
