Cold temperatures drive sales

By Bonnie Shelton

WAUSAU (WAOW)--The frigid weather has many people heading to sporting goods and drug stores to stock up on cold weather items.

We're in the midst of winter here in Wisconsin and the temperatures are, well, frigid.

Sporting Goods stores benefit from the cold temps selling items that can help you warm up.

"Anybody that's doing anything outside hand warmers are obviously a big thing," said Justin Gaiche, Sales Floor Lead at Gander Mtn.

To keep your body warm it's all in the layers. "Layering is extremely important in staying warm. A lot of people make the mistake of using cotton for an underliner," he said.

A lot of kids usually come in on snow days, cold days like today and it seems like sleds pick up and move a little bit faster too.

Dry hands and low humidity also come with the cold temperatures driving sales at Grebe's.

"Once the cold weather hits, the humidity in the home really drops," said Grebe's President Roger Grebe.

Whether you plan on braving the cold temperatures or curling up inside, store employees say they've got what you need.
