STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- People in Stevens Point brainstormed with Mayor Andrew Halverson on Monday night about ideas for the mall downtown. The listening session started at 5 PM in the Lincoln Center.
This meeting was the first of several where the mayor will look for ideas regarding what to do with the CenterPoint Mall, but it's the only one that will take place before next month's referendum. If voters approve, the February 15th referendum would put almost $6 million of taxpayer money into the project.
"If it doesn't pass, we don't have a revenue stream for this particular project which means we would probably have to go back to the drawing board," said Mayor Halverson.
The CenterPoint Mall has been almost empty for a long time now and the mayor presented ideas to the city council last month for how to improve it. If the referendum fails, the mayor said it will not be on the ballot in April.
