WHITEWATER- Jerrel Harris scored a career-high 25 points to lead the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team to an 85-59 victory over UW-Whitewater on Wednesday night at Kachel Gym in Williams Center.
The Pointers used a 17-3 run over an eight minute span in the first half to take a 27-13 lead with 6:58 remaining in the first half. Harris had eight of his game high 25 in during the run.
The Pointers completely dominated the first half as they outscored the Warhawks 40-20 over the first 20 minutes. The Pointers shot 53.8 percent (14-26) in the first half compared to the Warhawks 31 percent (9-29).
The Pointers also shot well from the free throw line as they were 22-27 from the line for the game.
Harris had ten points going into the break while Nick Krull and Louis Hurd scored six points each in the opening half.
The Pointers then started the second half on 16-3 run with Harris making two three pointers during the run to give them a 56-23 lead with 15:41 to go in the game.
The Pointers built up their lead to 38 points with 6:22 left in the game before the Warhawks cut the lead to 26 points for the 85-59 final.
Krull also finished in double digits for the Pointers as he had 10 points and a team high seven rebounds. Tyler Tillema had a nice all around game for the Pointers as he had nine points, five rebounds, and game highs in assists with five and blocks with two.
The win pushed the Pointers record to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the WIAC, while the Warhawks 5-4 in the WIAC.
