DPI: Accused superintendent viewed porn at work

MADISON (AP) -- A state Department of Public Instruction spokesman says the New Holstein school superintendent charged with soliciting sex from a minor resigned from the Madison School District after viewing pornography on his work computer.

DPI spokesman Patrick Gasper says the department investigated Christopher Nelson, but didn't find a reason to revoke his license. Records of the 2005 investigation were destroyed three years later as required by law.

New Holstein School Board President Oscar Beilke says that the district contacted Madison school officials before Nelson was hired, but weren't told about the pornography. Beilke says if they had been told, they wouldn't have hired Nelson.

The 58-year-old superintendent is accused of soliciting a 15-year-old boy online. The boy was actually an undercover investigator.
