Stevens Point man charged with fraud

MADISON (WAOW)--A Stevens Point man is charged with mail fraud in federal court.

In 2007, Daniel Weiler, 43, was fired from his job at Furniture and ApplianceMart in Stevens Point. However, Weiler continued to submit invoices for phony sales to a Sony sales incentive program after he was fired.

According to a Department of Justice press release, SHC Direct managed a sales incentive program for the Sony Corporation by which salespersons selling eligible products were rewarded with payments in the form of a reloadable debit card.

Federal prosecutors allege Weiler falsely represented that he was still employed at Furniture & ApplianceMart when he created and submitted false sales invoices for $2,475,268.30 from August 2007 through March 2008, after he was fired. Weiler was paid $78,750 from SHC Direct.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and $78,000 in restitution.
