Pointer men's hockey team dominates Blugolds 6-1

STEVENS POINT (PRESS RELEASE)- Chad Boeckman and Jon Madden each scored a pair of goals to help lead the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a dominating 6-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Friday night at the K.B. Willett Arena.

Both of Boeckman's goals came shorthanded and on the same penalty kill as he scored twice within a 1:11 span to give the Pointers a 2-0 lead after the first period.

Both of the first period goals scored by Boeckman were assisted by Madden and Garrett Suter as Madden finished the game with four points and Suter had three points to give him eight points over the team's last four games.

UW-Eau Claire made things interesting early in the second period as they scored a powerplay goal with 10:59 remaining in the second period to make the score 2-1. The Blugolds goal was scored by Tyler Jundt.

The Pointers had an answer though as they scored twice in the second period to take a 4-1 lead into the final period.

Madden got his first goal and third point of the night with 2:18 remaining in the second period when he scored off a pass from Luke Nesper to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Pointers.

The Pointers then struck again, 1:30 later, as the Johnny Meo scored with 48 seconds remaining in the period on a pass from Harrison Niemann to make the score 4-1 going into the final period.

After twelve plus minutes of a scoreless third period, the Pointers went on a 5-on-3 powerplay advantage and responded with two goals 43 seconds apart from each other to take the 6-1 lead.

Madden got his second goal of the night 12:25 into the final period as he scored off assists from Suter and Jon Bockmann to give the Pointers a 5-1 lead.

Max Bobrow put the finishing touches on the Blugolds as he scored a powerplay goal off a rebound from a shot from Brandon Busse. Nick Kenney also recorded an assist on the Pointers sixth and final goal.

Goalkeeper Nick Graves finished the game with 26 saves as he picked up his 10th win of the season for the Pointers.

The win pushes the Pointers record 10-11 overall and 6-8 in the NCHA. It was the fifth win for the Pointers in their last six games and the fifth straight home win for the Pointers.

The Pointers will return to action next Friday when they host St. Scholastica in an NCHA game at the K.B. Willett Arena. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
