FON DU LAC (PRESS RELEASE)- Erin Marvin scored a pair of goals to help give the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team a weekend sweep of Marian University with a 4-1 win on Saturday.
The Pointers jumped out to a two goal lead within the first 10 minutes of the game on Saturday as they scored the two goals 2 minutes and 27 seconds apart from each other.
Scoring the first goal of the game was Sarah Dusold as she scored off a pass from Kristen Selbach to give the Pointers a 1-0 advantage.
Sam Lorr found the back of the net next for the Pointers as she scored off assists from Cassandra Salmen and Allie Tanzer to give the Pointers a 2-0 lead that they would take into the first intermission.
The second period would feature two goals from Marvin as the Pointers had a 4-0 lead heading into the third and final period.
Marvin's first score was a powerplay goal that she scored 3:30 into the second off a pass from Erika Greenen to push the lead to 3-0.
Marvin then struck again, this time scoring an unassisted goal to give the Pointers a four goal lead.
Pointer goalkeeper Staci Pomering only needed two periods to pick up the win in net as she made seven saves and shut out the Sabres. Pomering did not allow a goal in the time she played over the two games this weekend.
Sierra Dart played the final 20 minutes in goal for the Pointers as she made 14 saves to finish out the win for the Pointers.
The Pointers improved to 11-6-1and 7-6-1 in the NCHA on the season with the victory as they picked up their fourth road victory of the season.
The Pointers will return to action next weekend when they will travel to face St. Scholastica in a pair of NCHA games. First game in Duluth is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday night and the two will play again on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
