Some Green Bay leaders accept Packer ticket offer

GREEN BAY (AP) -- Some elected officials in Green Bay and Brown County are taking advantage of an offer by the Green Bay Packers to sell them highly sought-after Super Bowl tickets at face value.

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports Sunday that Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt purchased five tickets at $1,200 each at his own expense. Brown County Executive Tom Hinz bought two tickets for $900 each and resold them to a friend at the same price.

Both told the newspaper they don't see a problem since they used their own money.

But Ashwaubenon Village President Mike Aubinger says he turned it down. Ticket brokers are asking as much as $8,500 per ticket, and Aubinger says his elected position shouldn't entitle him to special treatment.

City and county officials are involved in discussions with the team over real estate development around Lambeau Field. Spokesman Aaron Popkey says it's been team practice to extend the opportunity to numerous community partners including elected leaders at times.
