Senate Republican leader collected most per diems

MADISON (AP) -- The Republican leader in the state Senate collected more in travel reimbursements in 2010 than any other lawmaker.

Records released by the Legislature's clerk's offices show that Sen. Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau received $16,544 in per diems in 2010. The next highest was state Rep. Marlin Schneider of Wisconsin Rapids at $13,464.

Schneider lost re-election but Fitzgerald won and is now majority leader in the Senate.

State lawmakers from outside Dane County can collect $88 per day in reimbursement. Legislators from Dane County can collect $44 a day.

Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald of Horicon had the third highest overall in reimbursements, collecting $13,024 last year. Fourth highest was Rep. Leon Young, a Milwaukee Democrat, at $12,936.

The records were released Friday.
