WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Rhinelander High School Biology teacher Kay Coates is this month's Tools for Schools winner. Later this year, Coates plans to teach a seed to seed plant cycle unit. She says the $300 dollars will cover the cost of the growing systems and the lights.. in addition to the basic start-up supplies like seeds, soil, and plant labels.
She also says she will be able to save the seeds at the end of every year, so this money will serve her class for years to come.
Coates says, "With funding these days so tight in schools, opportunities like this allow us to buy the extra things we need… so kids can do the hands on activities versus having to hear me lecture and them taking notes the whole time."
This interactive unit will last for 40-to-50 days. Students will closely follow the plant's life cycle during that time.
Tools for Schools is sponsored by River Valley Bank, Courtesy Motors, and of course.. Newsline 9.
