Blanche Laverne Irene Wurster Bootz, 90, of Wausau, died Sunday January 30, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born on her parent's farm in the Town of Wausau on December 23rd 1920. She was the second oldest of five children. As a girl, she attended Trinity Lutheran School and was active in 4-H, Bible class, canning, sewing, and embroidering. She later attended the Wausau Vocational School.

During WWII, she worked at Marathon Battery supplying the Signal Corps, as well as the Wausau Rubber Plant.

Blanche married Elmer Bootz June 29th 1946 after his return from the war. Over their next fifteen years together they had nine children. During these times, she kept busy on the farm; growing her own vegetables, canning and cooking large meals for the entire family. Retiring from farming in 1980, Blanche and Elmer enjoyed traveling across the country to destinations such as New York, Washington D.C., Branson, Missouri, the Western states and Alaska. One of her favorite trips was a Caribbean cruise with some of her family. Blanche and Elmer loved fishing and spending time at their cottage on Lake Tamarack in Upper Michigan.

Blanche's hobbies included playing cards with her family, embroidering, growing vegetables and flowers in her garden and going to the casino. She was famous for always having a "little lunch" whenever the family gathered for holidays or special occasions. No one went hungry when they were in Blanche's home.

Blanche is survived by Elmer her loving husband of 64 years; five sons, Gary (Linda), Ronald (Pam), William (Theresa), Douglas (Vicki) and Cyrus (Laurie) Bootz, all of Wausau; four daughters, JoAnn (Dan) Koehler, Jan (Duane) Bootz-Dittmar, Jill (Robin) Falkowski, all of Wausau, and Judy (Russ) Johnson, Iron River, MI; twenty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Cyrus (Nola) Wurster, Appleton; one sister, Ethel (Lawrence) Paulus, Milwaukee; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Wurster, and Gretchen Wurster both of Wausau; She is further survived by her special niece Diana, and good friend Nina.

She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Leslie and Daniel Wurster.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday Feb. 3, 2011 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2822 N. 6th St. Wausau. Rev. Richard Russow will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St. Wausau, and again on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Blanche's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Matthew Clark and his staff, Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau Manor Nursing Center, Sylvan Crossing Assisted Living Center and the Hospice Unit at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau for all of the special care and concern shown to her.
