Rep. Seidel statement on Governor Walker's State of the State address
MADISON (PRESS RELEASE) – Rep. Donna Seidel (D-Wausau) offered these comments following Governor Walker's State of the State Address on Tuesday evening.
"Tonight Governor Walker told us that his administration stands for two things: frugality and jobs. After one month in office, we have seen neither.
We all agree Wisconsin is facing an economic emergency; unfortunately, the Governor's actions do not match his words. Instead of offering real solutions, the Governor continues to rely on gimmicks like his special session on jobs, which has been more about rewarding special interest campaign donors than addressing the emergency our state is facing. Governor Walker continues to use rhetoric about the need to cut spending, but the legislation put forward thus far has already cost us $142 million and not a single job has been created to show for it.
Governor Walker's first month in office has been full of missed opportunities to help Wisconsin's working families. Assembly Democrats have offered numerous suggestions to improve Walker's proposals; we have introduced our own bills that are proven job creators and will put people back to work right now. These efforts have been ignored while the Governor has placed a premium on rushing bills through the process instead of getting them done correctly.
There are many difficult choices ahead of us, but we have to make smart decisions and protect our priorities. We need an economic recovery that helps all Wisconsinites, not just those at the top. Balancing the budget on the backs of working class families and our most vulnerable citizens will not move us in the right direction."
