Sen. Lassa issues statement on State of the State

Madison (PRESS RELEASE)– State Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement in reaction to Governor Walkers' State of the State address this evening.

"I commend Governor Walker for placing his emphasis on creating jobs and building Wisconsin's economy.

Unfortunately, the bills he has been rushing through the Legislature during the special session have added over $140 million to the state's deficit while doing little to create good-paying jobs for Wisconsin workers.

"Instead, he's made it harder for district attorneys to prosecute criminals and for families to find out how their loved one was injured at a nursing home or care center.  He's proposed abolishing the Department of Commerce with no real plan to replace it, weakened protections for wetlands, and damaged Wisconsin's green energy industries.

"I'm afraid these ineffective policies will fail to create good jobs and will end up being paid for by throwing people off SeniorCare and BadgerCare, and by slashing funds for schools, transportation and public safety.

"I wish the Governor's speech had contained more details about how we can create good-paying, family-supporting jobs for Wisconsin workers now, and exactly how he plans to balance the widening budget gap his special session bills have made more severe."
