Governor makes stop in Wausau, talks jobs

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Governor Scott Walker is touring Wisconsin after giving his first State of the State speech.

Walker says there's been significant moves made towards growth in Wisconsin in his first 30 days in office. To continue that momentum, he's touring the state, highlighting successful businesses looking to expand.

The governor spoke to a group of employees at Wausau Container about his plans to create job thousands of jobs. He says lowering the cost of doing business in the state so employers can afford to put people to work is the first step.

"The critique has been that none of these things specifically create jobs," Walker explained. "Well that's been the problem in Madison. Too many politicians think that government creates jobs. Government doesn't create jobs. Only people and employers do that. So the things we're doing will help private sector employers create jobs and our hope is sooner rather than later."

Walker also made stops at companies in Rhinelander, Eau Claire and DePere.
