Wausau salt situation looks good

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- With all the snow we've seen lately, plow drivers have been busy keeping the roads clear. But in Wausau, city leaders said there's still plenty of salt to go around.

They've used about 60% of their salt so far, which city leaders say is typical for this time of year. Even though plow drivers have an easier time plowing if two or three inches fall, as opposed to just a flurry here and there, Wausau's street superintendent, Don Skare said they're having no problems staying within their salt budget.

"We end up using a little bit more salt and sand because it snows just enough to make things slippery and gets people out of control in their cars," said Skare.

Skare said they sometimes use brine while spreading salt, which helps them use about 30%less. This helps the city save money while keeping roads clear.
