Stevens Point could get state financial assistance for mall project

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- Stevens Point will have the opportunity to receive help from the state of Wisconsin. But they must pass a referendum this coming election for that to happen. The city is asking for close to 6 million dollars to improve Center Point Mall. If the referendum passes, Portage County will get $750,000 from the state for redevelopment.

"This referendum in terms of its bonding measure really does have the opportunity to have impact cross jurisdictionally throughout our community. There are many different organizations that will benefit from this," said Mayor Andrew Halverson.

If the referendum doesn't pass the mayor says they'd have refigure their plans for the mall.
